Performance Under Pressure.

Strategic advisory for organisations that must perform when pressure is highest.

Better Decisions. Stronger Teams. Better Outcomes.

What sets RHEM apart

Strategic. Tactical. Operational.

RHEM speaks the language of the boardroom, the crisis team and the frontline — and the ability to move between those levels is what makes the difference.
  1. 01

    Strategic

What must our organisation be able to do when it matters?

Sharp policy work and strategic advice grounded in governance, public administration and integral safety.

  2. 02

    Tactical

How do we translate policy into workable, rehearsed choices?

Crisis plans, scenarios, risk analyses and evaluations that connect strategy to the reality of the crisis team.

  3. 03

    Operational

How do we make sure people and teams perform when it counts?

Training, exercising and human performance work — informed by direct operational experience across police, fire, GHOR and public assistance.

We help organisations improve decision-making, strengthen collaboration and enhance organisational capability in environments where uncertainty, complexity and consequences converge.

The origin of RHEM

Founded on fifteen years of decisions that could not wait.

RHEM carries the founder's family name. Riem is a Dutch variant of the older Rhem — a name whose roots trace an adventurous line between the Alps and southern Germany and, further north, Friesland. That heritage informs the practice: mountain clarity, northern composure, and the long view. It also reflects a pattern seen too often across fifteen years of work: organisations that only truly prepare after being hit.

After fifteen years across police, fire & rescue, the medical column and crisis management, one observation kept returning: the moment of the crisis is almost never the moment of the mistake. The mistake was made long before — in a decision structure that was never rehearsed, a mandate that was never made explicit, a team that had never worked under pressure together.

RHEM was founded to move that preparation forward. Not to sell training hours, and not to arrive after the incident. To sit with executive teams, boards and crisis leaders before the pressure arrives — and to build the capability to think clearly, decide well and act with intent when it does.

  • RResilience — the physiological and organisational baseline that keeps judgement coherent.
  • HHuman Performance — decisions, teams and leadership under real pressure.
  • EEffectiveness — outcomes measured in decisions, not deliverables.
  • MManagement — strategy, governance and crisis leadership brought together.

How we work

Three movements from question to capability

Every engagement follows the same rhythm: we first understand the terrain, then design what is needed, and finally activate it inside your organisation. Clear, sequenced, and calibrated to executive tempo.

01Explore

Understanding the terrain

We map the real question behind the question. Where does pressure hit hardest, which decisions are unclear, and which capabilities are already strong. The result is a shared, precise view of what actually needs to change.

  • Sponsor and stakeholder interviews
  • Document, doctrine and incident review
  • Diagnostic against the RHEM framework

A written framing note with scope, decision points and success criteria.

02Build

Designing what is needed

We shape the intervention: strategic advisory, tabletop, programme or written advice. Content, scenarios and materials are built around your context, your teams and the decisions they actually face.

  • Design of scenarios, doctrine or programme
  • Written advisories and decision aids
  • Alignment with executive and operational leads

A ready-to-run intervention or deliverable, tested against reality.

03Activate

Landing it in the organisation

We run the intervention, coach the people who carry it, and translate lessons into a lasting rhythm. The aim is capability that stays after we leave — not dependency on the advisor.

  • Facilitation, coaching and executive readouts
  • Embedding routines, playbooks and roles
  • Follow-up review after 60–90 days

Teams and leaders that decide more sharply under pressure, with evidence to show it.

The rhythm stays the same; the depth, duration and deliverables adjust to the mandate.

Philosophy

When pressure increases, decisions matter most.

RHEM helps organisations prepare, decide and perform when it matters most.

Pressure does not create leaders. It reveals preparation.

A bridge spans a deep alpine gorge — preparation built long before it was needed

Preparation

Build the crossing before you need it.

The bridge across a gorge is not built during the storm. Preparation is what makes decisions under pressure possible.

Method

Human Performance Under Pressure

Where decision-making and physiology meet.

Performance under pressure is not a wellness topic. It is a decision-making topic.

Cold exposure, breathwork and structured stress conditioning are not lifestyle add-ons. They modulate cortisol, heart-rate variability and cognitive load — the same variables that determine the quality of a decision when uncertainty and consequences converge. RHEM connects this physiological reality to the moment where it matters: leaders and teams making calls under real pressure.

RHEM is the only advisory practice that integrates crisis decision-making with physical and mental resilience training.

  • Cortisol regulation

Managing the stress response before it degrades judgement.

  • HRV & recovery

Building the physiological baseline that sustains performance.

  • Cognitive load

Reducing noise so decision-making stays coherent under pressure.

Frequently asked

Human performance, crisis decision-making and team resilience.

The questions executives, boards and crisis leaders ask us most often — answered directly.

Human Performance

It is the measurable ability of a person to think clearly, decide well and act with intent when stress, uncertainty and consequences converge. RHEM treats it as a decision-making topic — grounded in physiology (cortisol, heart-rate variability, cognitive load), not as a wellness programme.

Melvin Riem — Founder, RHEM

Direct contact

Direct contact with Melvin, the founder. No layers in between.

RHEM is deliberately small. Every engagement is scoped, delivered and reviewed with the founder involved — never routed through a client-services layer. That is an asset, not a limitation.

Small. Personal. Senior.
